Classic - Installing Successware Client on a Workstation

  • Updated

Note: If this is a new workstation on the network, make certain that it has been joined to the appropriate workgroup or Domain prior to installing Successware Client.

Note: If this is a new user on the network, be sure to add the new username to the “SW21User” group in Active Directory on the server. Or if in a Workgroup, Computer Management of the server.

1. Do not use the CDROM to install Successware Client on the workstations. Make sure you are logged on to the workstation with administrator privileges. Set user permissions. There are specific permissions that must be granted to the users to run Successware in a networked environment. While you could just grant administrative rights, this is poor security policy.

We recommend the following options:

a. Grant Power User rights for each user. This should allow sufficient privileges to run Successware. There have been instances where a network has been configured in a manner such that Power User rights are insufficient. In this case, or if Power User rights are inappropriate, you should use method b, noted below.

b. Grant specific privileges. The user must be given read/write privileges to the following:

i. Registry rights
ii. File rights

Contact a qualified Network Administrator if you are unfamiliar with either of these options.

2. Give full access of the Successware folder to each user on the domain.

3. Create a mapped network drive on the workstation to the SuccessWare21 SQL folder on your server. Consult your network administrator to obtain the location of this folder and how to create a mapped network drive.

4. Click the Windows Start button and select Run.

5. In the Open field, type E:\ InstallClient, substituting the drive letter “E” for the mapped drive created in step 3.

6. Follow the instructions displayed by the installer. Typically, the default settings are sufficient. See your Network administrator for verification.

7. After the installation is completed, you may have to reboot your computer. If the installer indicates that you need to reboot, you MUST do so for the application to run properly.

8. You will see a new Successware shortcut icon appear on the desktop of the workstation. Double-click the icon to access the Successware program.
